“[Looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work].” — Hebrews 12:2 AMP
Before we receive God's Word for us today, let’s take a moment to express our gratitude. He has surely been good to us! The very proof of life signifies that there is a divine plan for each of us, and greater things lie ahead.
As we look forward to 2025, its success will largely depend on our strategy. Strategy is crucial; it serves as a hallmark of preparation. In every aspect of life, moving with intention is vital. Those who have a plan are determined to thrive.
The Bible provides us with a clear strategy for living: Look unto JESUS and turn away from distractions. Life is filled with diversions. While we trust GOD for a better year ahead, we must acknowledge that distractions are inevitable. We can be sidetracked by people, situations, work, family, and countless other factors. Distractions exist to divert us from our goals. I have often found myself distracted, only to realize that time has slipped away, leaving my intentions unfulfilled or unable to be done anymore because it will not be beneficial.
The key to a successful 2025 is to look to JESUS as a child looks to their parents for care. As we grow older, society encourages independence; however, we must remember that we can never be independent of JESUS. Life teaches us to take control, but true fulfillment comes from relying on GOD.
Consider Peter’s experience in Matthew 14:29-30 AMP: “He said, ‘Come!’ So Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he saw [the effects of] the wind, he was frightened and began to sink. He cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’”
Peter witnessed Jesus perform a wonder and was eager to do the same. Like him, we aspire to achieve great things in the coming year. We may have strategic plans in place and feel poised for success. Yet distractions often arise—especially when faced with opposition or setbacks—and fear can cause us to falter.
Notice that as long as Peter kept his eyes on JESUS, he was able to walk on water without fear. It was only when he became aware of his surroundings that he began to sink.
As we embark on this new year, let our eyes remain fixed on JESUS—the EPITOME of HOPE. We must focus our senses on Him and turn away from any distractions that may come our way. These distractions may manifest as negative words from others or challenging situations. Remember that JESUS initiated your dreams; HE will also bring them to fruition. Your primary focus should be keeping your eyes on HIM.
In a world where GODLINESS seems diminished, through engagement with the Bible, prayer, church activities, faith-based podcasts, or Christian fellowship you can maintain your focus on JESUS. Even as its easy to get distracted, JESUS held Peter when he began to sink. JESUS never left Peter to sink. JESUS will help us even when we falter in looking to HIM when we call unto HIM!.
“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:29-31
On this first day of 2025, remember that JESUS welcomes anyone who seeks HIM.
On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and called out in a loud voice: “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.” — John 7:37
Life presents numerous challenges that can drain us emotionally, mentally, financially, socially and spiritually; thus, we need refreshment. JESUS is always ready to rejuvenate us. Through your submission today, you can accept His help.
