Picture These Scenarios:
1. Imagine you’re driving home from a long day at work. You take a wrong turn and find yourself on a deserted country road. Suddenly, your car breaks down, and your phone shows no signal. You’re 100 km away from home, and despite your best efforts, you can’t reach anyone. Frustrated and feeling helpless, you decide to start walking in hopes of finding help.
2. You’re facing a mountain of bills that seem impossible to pay. You’ve exhausted all your savings and borrowed from friends, but nothing has worked out. The weight of financial stress feels overwhelming, and you can’t shake the feeling that life is closing in on you. It’s hard to see a way out, and despair starts to creep in.
3. It’s 2:00 AM, and you’ve just experienced a panic attack after a stressful week. You reach for your phone to call someone—anyone—but everyone you know is fast asleep. The silence is deafening, and it feels like you’re all alone in this moment of fear. It’s as if the darkness is closing in around you, making it hard to breathe.
4. It’s graduation day—the moment you’ve been waiting for! You had hoped your closest friends would celebrate this milestone with you, but one by one, they text to say they can’t make it due to family commitments. As you stand there in your cap and gown, looking out at the empty seats where they should be, you feel a wave of loneliness wash over you because your family is away too.
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 KJV
One thing we all long for is the assurance from our loved ones that they will always be there for us. They sincerely mean well, but there comes a time when we need their words to be transformed into actions—and often, we don’t see that happen. Suddenly, it feels as though our world is crashing down around us. We invest so much in people and become reliant on their promises, believing they are certain until the moment we need them.
Thankfully, we have ONE who is always available. It’s interesting how we often run to those least likely to be available instead of turning to the ONE who is always there for us. GOD neither sleeps nor slumbers; HE never fails to show up. Whether you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere or facing financial crises, on the verge of losing your life, or feeling utterly alone—GOD has proven to be there always. HE is the ONE who never leaves us; closer to us than our very skin!
An “ever-present help” means HIS assistance never runs out or runs dry. Because GOD is not limited by time or space, HIS help transcends human limitations. Picture a waiter assigned to your table—every time you wave, they glide over to assist with your needs—ever present. That is who GOD is! We must begin to normalize calling on GOD first.
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
— Romans 10:13 KJV
The Bible also states that “vain is the help of man,” and it is only a fool who trusts in human strength.
“Give us help from trouble: For vain is the help of man.”
— Psalm 60:11 KJV
God’s Message: “Cursed is the strong one who depends on mere humans, who thinks he can make it on muscle alone and sets God aside as dead weight.”
— Jeremiah 17:5 MSG
What do you need saving from today—loneliness, financial lack, hunger, health issues, or wandering? GOD is your EVER-PRESENT HELP; HE is able to attend to every situation.
Imagine a mechanic fixing your car in the middle of nowhere; where he came from you don’t know. JESUS is that help that you may not notice but is ever-present. The next time you face an issue—no matter how trivial it may seem—even something as simple as doing your hair—ask HIM about it, and HE will guide you in making choices. GOD’s help spans wide; HE is the master of all things. These revisions aim to create vivid images and relatable emotions that readers can connect with more easily
Thank You LORD for being an EVER PRESENT HELP. Forgive me for not turning to YOU first. Today I ask for the GRACE to do so and trust solely in YOU in JESUS might name. Amen.
