"Surrender your anxiety. Be still and realize that I am God. I am God above all the nations, and I am exalted throughout the whole earth. " Psalms 46:10 (TPT)
Life is often likened to a boat on water?calm and stable when the waters are serene, yet chaotic during a tempest. Regardless of how life is described, there are moments when we experience anxiety. This is a natural part of being human, and remarkably, the Bible acknowledges our anxieties and provides guidance on how to address them.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
This verse implies that we can surrender our anxieties by presenting our requests to God through prayer and petition, accompanied by thanksgiving.
Today?s scripture urges us to surrender our anxiety. Often, our worries stem from uncertainty about what we know or do not know. The God we serve is all-knowing; nothing escapes His awareness. He is the beginning and the end (Alpha and Omega) and has control over all things. In Isaiah 54:16-17, He reassures us not to fear because everything is subject to Him (as affirmed in John 1:3).
To surrender means to let go. The Septuagint translates it to ?relax.? Let go of your anxiety; calm your nerves. Do not be uneasy, worried, or fearful. After urging us to relax, God instructs us to be still. This call to calmness is therapeutic. Once we release our anxieties, He invites us to find peace within ourselves.
When we lose something that has become a part of our normal routine, it can feel disorienting. In such moments, God encourages us to be still?to come back to ourselves. At times it seems being anxious is the only way but then GOD helps us deal with it and then we feel as though something is missing and then HE says to us to calm down. The purpose of this stillness is singular: to realize that He is God. To ?realize? means to conceive vividly and bring into concrete existence the understanding of who God truly is.
In our stillness, we gain clarity about what?or rather, who?we have in God. This realization becomes vivid and concrete. The latter part of Psalms 46:10 conveys three important truths:
God's Supremacy: God is above all nations and exalted throughout the earth; this alone is reason enough for calmness. Our level of authority often reflects those with whom we associate?God reigns over all.
Awareness of His Presence: He helps those who are anxious recognize who He is?God above all nations comprised of people.
His Universal Reign: There is no place on earth where His authority does not extend.
God invites us to consider His might and power. When He tells us to realize this truth, it suggests an awareness of His presence; we are not oblivious to Him but may simply need a reminder of how close He truly is. Unlike many powerful figures in the world who may lack compassion, God embodies both power and care.
?Pour out all your worries and stress upon Him and leave them there, for He always tenderly cares for you.? ? 1 Peter 5:7 (TPT)
If you find yourself facing a tough time today?whether anxious about life, relationships, or other challenges?remember that the One who holds all things says to be still. He has everything under control; therefore, you need not fear. Go home and relax because nothing in His hands is ever destroyed.
