"For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly."
This scripture serves as a powerful testament to the goodness of GOD.
As we navigate through life, our initial encounters are often with other people, shaping our perceptions of life and existence, authority and other figures, relations and even GOD. The analogy of GOD as a parent may lead us to view Him through the lens of human flaws, potentially distorting our understanding of His nature. However, we are grateful for HIS WORD, which is true, and for the HOLY SPIRIT that guides us to a deeper knowledge of who GOD truly is.
The metaphor of the LORD as a sun signifies HIS role as the source of life. Just as the sun provides essential energy and vibrancy, GOD is our everlasting source of growth and vitality. We cannot exist without the influence of the sun; similarly, we live and move in HIM (Acts 17:28). HE is vital for our existence, providing everything we need to thrive. Just as the sun allows for growth and contains vital minerals for our existence so it is with GOD. The sun's self-generating light reflects GOD's intrinsic nature—HE illuminates our lives, expelling darkness and guiding us toward righteousness (John 1:9). In HIS presence, we find warmth and comfort; it is through HIM that we experience true goodness.
The imagery of GOD as a shield emphasizes HIS protective nature. HE is our mighty defense against evil and adversity. Just as soldiers rely on shields for protection in battle, we find security in GOD's unwavering presence. While human shields may fail, GOD's protection is steadfast (Psalm 125:2). This assurance allows us to walk through dark valleys without fear, knowing that HE is with us (Psalm 23).
As you reflect on these truths today, consider that the LORD is indeed a good GOD, and in HIM, there is no evil. Embrace this understanding and allow it to deepen your relationship with HIM.
